Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. Hebrews 1:1-2 NLT
Our world is constantly changing. There are new innovations almost daily in a world brimming with advancements and change. But one thing for certain has not changed. From the very beginning of human civilization to our current digital age, our need to communicate has been at the core of our humanity. Through communication we express our emotions, share our thoughts, and build relationships. Communication is not just a tool for interaction but a necessity for our emotional and psychological well-being.
The most significant relationship humans can ever have is with our Creator. But how do we attract His attention? How do we get Him to speak? Fortunately for us, our God is a communicator. He is a proactive communicator, taking the initiative to speak with us. He has never been silent. He actively speaks to His people. This isn't a distant deity but a relational one who desires to reveal Himself.
God spoke “many times and many ways” throughout history. He communicated through
prophets, dreams, and dramatic acts. It was as if a puzzle was coming together and He was adding new pieces for the full picture to emerge. Then God’s speaking to us came to a perfect climax: God’s communication culminated in Jesus. God has spoken to humanity since the beginning. But with Jesus, He stepped into our world and communicated definitively through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the ultimate communicator, heir of all things, and creator of the universe. Jesus is the final, perfect Word from God for humanity. He isn’t just a messenger like the prophets; He IS the message. This communication is unparalleled.
Jesus is God’s ultimate and last communication with us. Jesus Himself said, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.” Obviously, we have heard the Father as well. Colossians 1:15 says that Jesus is God made visible and knowable to humanity. Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus is the exact character of God. Jesus is the ultimate communicator, requiring our attentive listening to His supreme revelation.
- The core question for me is am I listening? Am I paying attention to this final, perfect Word, Jesus? Or am I distracted by lesser but louder voices? Jesus, You have spoken and are speaking. Help me give You my full and finest attention.
